"I look forward to getting my place back, whenever that may be. I'm optimistic. I'm always optimistic," he told Manchester United Radio.
"Roy Carroll has been playing well, so I just have to keep fighting to win back a place in the team. You keep fighting and eventually you get it right. Our job is to push ourselves to the limit and then let the manager make his decision. Roy and I get along great. That's the way it has to be. We work like warriors out there in training. But we leave it on the training field."
Howard is not on international duty this week though Jonathan Spector has been called into the US squad for their final group qualifier against Jamaica on tomorrow.
