The Glazers’ policy of shipping out as many players as possible to reduce the wage bill is already having adverse effects on the squad. With Heinze’s injury, Charlton have made clear Spector won’t be in line for a quick return.
HOW LONG DO YOU NEED TO WAIT AND SEE?
From the MEN:
Charlton manager Alan Curbishley does not expect United to come calling for Jonathan Spector to help ease their defensive crisis.
With Gabriel Heinze facing a long lay-off because of a cruciate knee ligament injury and England full-back Gary Neville also currently not fit there had been suggestions Sir Alex Sexton would be looking for the American to return to Old Trafford from his season-long loan deal with the south-east London club.
However, Curbishley stated Spector - who made his first start for the Addicks in their Carling Cup win over Hartlepool on Tuesday - will remain part of Charlton’s squad for the foreseeable future.
“I was disappointed with what I saw in the programme,” said the Charlton manager, clearly unhappy at an article which appeared in the Valley Review concerning Spector and United’s current defensive injury problems.
“He has come here to gain experience and nothing can happen until December anyway.
“I believe Gary Neville has played in the reserves this week so I am sure he will be back soon and someone else will go over the other side of defence.”
