HISTORY IN THE MAKING
FC United’s first ever fixture is against Leigh RMI in a pre-season friendly tomorrow at 3pm.
For people who vaguely recall such things it’s probably worth mentioning that entrance will be by *pay-on-the-gate*, to a structure which is often referred to as a *terrace*.
It is Red Issue’s information that you will even be allowed to *stand* with your friends, that you won’t be hassled for singing out loud, and that you can enjoy a nice, refreshing beer in the various stadium outlets.

Can all this possibly be true?!? Well, get yourself down there and find out. Alternatively, you could watch the likes of Bellion and Miller excel themselves up at Clyde for United’s reserve team.
Travel to Leigh from Manchester (as supplied by one local Forumista).
By Bus
The most direct route is by bus. Catch the 26 from Corporation Street, goes down Cross Street and John Dalton Street onto Chapel Street. Also goes through Swinton, Worsley, Boothstown straight to Leigh Bus Station. Takes about 45-50 mins by the time it has gone round the houses.
By Train
Leigh is the largest town in England without its own station. You will need to get the train from Victoria to Atherton station. Get off here, cross the main road and catch the 582 Bus from the stop opposite a pub called The Bluebell, this also takes you straight into the bus station (you will also pass Hilton Park) Train takes about 20 mins, bus about 10 mins.

By Road
From Manchester, take the A580 East Lancs Road towards St Helens. Pass over the Greyhound roundabout (you will know it due to the Total petrol station on the left and Greyhound Hotel on right.) At next set of lights turn right onto the Leigh By pass. Keep going through a set of lights and over a roundabout at Sainsburys. The ground will appear on the right opposite Asda, think you will be ok to park on there, but there is street parking if you turn right at the lights at the Asda/ground/B&Q. Look for a pub called The Victoria.

Drinking
Leigh is chock full of pubs. I suggest the easiest one for people to get to and meet up in is The Goose at Spinning Jenny. This is the big pub that is pretty much right on the bus station itself. I will be in from about half 11, will be wearing a Chicago Bears cap if anyone feels the need to come and say hello. The ground is about a 5/10 min walk from here, depending on how much you have supped before hand.
