He continues:
"We can't afford to spend £45m or £50m on one player. One reason why we run a successful operation is because we work within financial parameters," he said.
Gill added that he believed manager Sir Alex Ferguson had already made all the summer signings he needs.
"At the end of last season we identified the need to sign a striker - that was Alan Smith from Leeds," added Gill.
"We also identified a left-back - that was Gabriel Heinze. We have completed the task with those two signings.
"Our priority now is to concentrate on exits - then that is it."
