Sir Alex played hard ball again with Rio Ferdinand last night by telling the contract rebel: "If you don't sign this summer we won't sell you,"
The Manchester United boss is adamant he won't cave in to tactics designed to back him into a corner over Ferdinand's £120,000-a-week demands.
And he's warned Ferdinand and his agent Pini Zahavi that there will be no quick escape route for the 26-year-old defender if talks break down.
"There is no deadline over this because Rio has got two years left on his contract. So if he doesn't sign this summer then we'll just carry on as normal,'' said Ferguson.
