“I had my Achilles scraped during the summer and, that apart, I have been training throughout the break, so I am fully fit.
“I have been playing for the reserves since Christmas and have been fit since then.
“I enjoyed the season with the reserves. I put off the minor Achilles surgery in order to play on to help them win the title.
“It was good to play football regularly and I did enjoy helping the younger players. It was all enjoyable because I was playing and that’s what it is all about. But I don’t want to become known as a reserve team player. I don’t want that label.
“I am 32 now and I just want to play first team football.”
“The signing of Rio hasn’t bothered me at all. To be honest I am delighted United have signed him because he’s a really good player. I was chuffed to bits about the signing. He’s 23 and is going to be at Old Trafford for 10 years at least and that’s great for the club and the fans.
“I was a year older than Rio when I arrived and I’ve had the best years of my life at United and I am sure he will.
“I realise that age catches up with you, as it will do for Rio eventually, and you have to move on. Now I will just have to wait and see what happens.”
