The Times:
The important task of restoring Manchester United to the top of English football was hammered home to the Glazer family yesterday as the club finished eighth, behind Werder Bremen, in the Champions League earnings table for last season. United received only £10.9 million from their European campaign, which ended at the first knockout round, to place the club way down Uefa’s money list compared with their closest Premiership rivals.
Liverpool, the European champions, topped the table with earnings from their share of television money and performance bonuses reaching £20.5 million. Chelsea were the second best remunerated club with £18.8 million, while Arsenal were fourth with £15.7 million, behind AC Milan, the finalists, who earned £17.5 million.
Werder Bremen earned more than United with £11.4 million.
