GIGGS LOOKING TO THE EXIT

From the Evening News:

Ryan Giggs has revealed his worries about Chelsea's financial muscle and admitted Manchester United can no longer compete with them in the transfer market. Giggs confessed he was dismayed last year when Damien Duff and Arjen Robben rejected a move to United and opted for Chelsea instead.

And the Wales star, who will line up against England in tomorrow's World Cup qualifier, conceded his was no longer the first-choice club for most players.

"When Robben signed for Chelsea I thought 'Why is he signing for them and not for us?'," said Giggs. "As with Duff before him, it worried me he'd be choosing Chelsea in preference to us. Robben had been to Manchester and had a look round before making his mind up.

"He was shown around Carrington, as good a training ground as you'll find. I'm told the place Chelsea were using at the time was poor by comparison, so it can't have been the facilities that persuaded him.

"It must have been the money. United didn't have the resources Roman Abramovich was providing."

But Giggs is confident United can reclaim their status as the country's dominant side.

"Coming third in the Premiership and ending last season empty-handed was unacceptable," he added.
