GIGGS KNOWS THE VALUE OF AWAY GOALS

Speaking to City Life, Giggs said:

"We've got to go to Spain looking to score. When we played
Real in 2000 we drew the first leg 0-0 in the Bernabau and
everyone at the time said it was a fantastic result for us
and made us favourites to get through to the semi-final.

"But it didn't work out like that because we lost 3-2 at Old
Trafford. It's a dangerous tactic to rely on Madrid not
scoring, home or away, and we won't make the same mistake
again.

"If we didn't believe we're capable of beating any of the
seven teams left in the competition, we may as well as pack
up and go home now,

"When you get to this stage, reputations count for little
because you're playing against the best teams in Europe on
current form and what anyone did last season or the season
before means nothing.

"People get too hung up on the reputation of teams. The last
few seasons of the Champions League have proved that the
form teams, rather the clubs with the big histories, are
just as likely to be successful as anyone.

"Bayer Leverkusen, Valencia and even Leeds a couple of
seasons ago have all done well in the competition while the
supposedly bigger teams have struggled. It just goes to show
that you can take nothing for granted."
