GEORGE IN A BAD WAY

George was placed on a life-support machine on Friday and his condition remained unchanged over the weekend.

His doctor Professor Roger Williams has described his condition as being 'desperately ill'.

"I have just seen Mr Best and the situation is he is hanging in," Williams said on Sky Sports News on Monday lunchtime. "He is still responsive, he is still on a ventilator, but some of the blood tests are better which gives us some encouragement. There has not been any major deterioration over the night. We are hoping to see improvement, which is needed, but at the moment there has not been much improvement."

"He is a desperately ill man, he can't survive day after day after day without showing improvement. He is keeping himself alive, his brain is active and his pupils are reactive."
