FOUR FINGERED FAT BOY

From The Sun:

'ROBBIE FOWLER is facing an FA rap for his gestures at Manchester United fans. The City striker enraged a section of Old Trafford with his hand signals as he warmed up during yesterday’s 0-0 draw. City boss Kevin Keegan says he did not see it and claimed Fowler gets stick from United fans.

He said: "You should hear the stick Robbie gets from United fans because he played for the three teams they hate — Liverpool, Leeds and now City."

Kitman Les Chapman appeared to be sent from the dugout by a member of City staff to stop the player making the gestures.'

This from Telegraph:

'Sadly, City's show of defiance will also be remembered for offensive gesticulations made by the unused substitute, Robbie Fowler, while he was warming up in the second half. As a former player for Leeds United and Liverpool, Fowler knew he would receive relentless abuse from the crowd but his response was inexcusable.

Beginning with hand signals for 20 seconds, Fowler progressed like a demented tick-tack man, to holding up four fingers to remind everyone of the number of European Cups won by Liverpool to United's two.

Fowler's actions were hugely provocative and could have triggered crowd disturbance. Sensibly, Keegan dispatched the club kit-manager, Les Chapman, to tell Fowler to desist. If the incident is reported, Fowler could face a Football Association disrepute charge.'

The Times has a different view on the four fingered fat boy:

'To add to the angst of the home fans, they had to endure Robbie Fowler baiting them as he warmed up on the touchline, making a fist at the crowd and holding up four fingers to remind them United’s weaknesses were evident last season, too, when City won 4-1 at the City of Manchester Stadium.'
