"He has now played nearly 60 minutes and, for me, that's enough. I'm hopeful we can now get him to put pen-to-paper on Monday.
"His problem has always been - certainly last year - that he hasn't been able to stay fit.
"Our backroom boys have taken up the challenge and given him a lot of individual work before the rest of the players started back.
"That has enabled him to continue all the way through the rest of the pre-season with the rest of the lads."
