The 23-year-old former United Reserves defender was awarded compensation of £4million after his career was ended when he was only 18 during a reserve match with Middlesbrough in May 2003 which resulted in a broken leg.
"I thought the boy showed fantastic focus, a great attitude to work hard and they are qualities to give any player an outstanding chance in the game," manager Sir Alex Ferguson had told the High Court in London.
The compensation, which could rise to £4.5million, will be paid by insurers of Middlesbrough FC.
