"People told me about what was in the papers, but I didn't let it affect my holiday," said Forlan.

"It never worried me that United might want to sell me. I am under contract and am totally happy here. If anything is going to change then the club will tell me and they didn't so I just got on with enjoying my holiday.

"If something was going to happen, I'm sure the club would talk to me first and they haven't, so I feel quite calm about the situation and fully focused on preparations for the new season.

"I think I have learned a lot as a player at Old Trafford. I have improved as a striker and have gained some experience but obviously I want to play more and get more experience in the future.

"It is more difficult to improve when you are only coming on sometimes for about five or ten minutes. To get better you need more time on the pitch. The longer you play the more you become calm in certain situations.

"You need to be playing for 90 minutes to get that calmness in your game.

"But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown that you can progress from being a regular substitute to being a first choice player. I know it takes time.

"If I can pick up things from him and Ruud van Nistelrooy then I know I can make progress. I couldn't wish to learn from better strikers than those two."
