Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has told M.E.N. that Sir Alex Ferguson should be thanked for all the help he has given him during his time at the Reebok Stadium.

He also says that he would seek his help and guidance again should the Yonners ever qualify for Europe.

"I want to get into Europe and it's easier to get there by winning a cup final rather than by finishing fourth or fifth on the Premiership. That involves 38 games while you can win a cup in seven or eight matches.

"Playing in Europe means you have got to a level where you have to balance
competing there with maintaining your results in the Premiership.

"You have to be able to cope with it physically and mentally, as a staff as well as a group of players, and I would take on board a lot of what Alex would tell me.

He then shows the depth of knowledge of the people of Bolton

"Europe would be a new invention for us and we wouldn't want to go into the
unknown without expecting what might happen.

So to make sure he wasn't in Asia he goes on

"I would touch base initially with Sir Alex to find out how to understand and deal with it. We have our ideas but to hear it from someone like him would be very
important, even before we talked about how the players would deal with it.

"I wouldn't say I talk to Sir Alex on a regular basis. But we have our
conversations when we get the opportunity and he's always there on the phone if you ever need him. He'll always find a bit of time to speak to you and that man is busier than anybody."
