The midfielder missed seven weeks of the past Premier League campaign with a stomach problem, in that time he lost weight, but did enough to get into the plans of the boss towards the end of the season.
But now it looks like Fletcher will be left kicking his heels on the sidelines for the clash with Barcelona at Wembley on Saturday.
Ferguson feels Fletcher is not 100 per cent his best and Carrick will get the nod ahead of him.
"It's not for me to decide," Fletcher said. "All you can do is your best. The lads who have got us there have done really well, so the manager has a lot of decisions to make.”
