Ferguson was determined that the victory will be used as a platform to build on.
"It's a good start and hopefully we can go on a run of wins now, because we need wins to get beside Arsenal. I think we've proved over the years that there's nothing between the two teams. There were a lot of great players on the pitch and we just hope that the big players come through, on the day, we just edged it."
