Ferguson angry over ticket prices

For fans of clubs involved in the final the cheapest ticket will be £80.

"It's a killer and a corporate deal, that," said Ferguson. "Managers and players can't do anything about it. I don't know what you can do."

Uefa announced on Thursday that 11,000 tickets will be available on general sale. The allocation of these tickets will be decided by ballot.

Prices, not including administration fees, start at £150 for category three tickets rising to £225 and £300 for the best seating in categories two and one respectively, with wheelchair entry costing £80.

A number of ?80 tickets will be available among the 25,000 allocated to each club for the final at the 86,000-capacity Wembley Stadium.

Uefa's director of competitions, Giorgio Marchetti, defended the prices, claiming: "We don't think that the Champions League final is overpriced.

"We do not want to squeeze every single penny out of the market.

"We have to benchmark this event against other comparable events, like for example the final of the Euros and the World Cup.

"Last year there was already a significant increase compared to the previous editions but it's nothing to do with being in London and it is still priced below comparable events."

Meanwhile, United boss Ferguson has suggested the idea of a winter break to help breathe new life into the FA Cup.

United defeated non-league Crawley Town 1-0 at Old Trafford in the competition on Saturday - and Ferguson said in his programme notes for the match: "What is worth looking at is the German model of a month's break in January and then launching the second half of the season with their cup competition.

"I know this would mean spilling over into the summer season but I see nothing wrong with that and playing league fixtures beyond the end of May.

"We are playing internationals in June and we could accommodate a league extension."

The Bundesliga season resumed on 15 January after a winter break that started in mid-December.
