FERGIE PLANNING FOR LONG TERM

Fergie:

"When you are at a club and have a long-term plan, which we have at the moment, it doesn't matter whether I will be there to see it through. The important thing is to approach it properly and to make sure the future of the club is 100 per cent. My main priority is to give Manchester United on the football park its proper respect in the world today.

"The difficulty nowadays is that [in the early nineties] the standard of the game - particularly at United - was not as high as it is today. From the 1992 youth team, eight became full internationals. There is no country or club in the world that has ever done that. Therefore we have to look at that as an exception.

"But we look at United today, Darren Fletcher, John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Phil Bardsley and the young boy Giuseppe Rossi are all breaking through. From time to time we have always done that.

"At times we get a lot of unfair criticism but we always like to represent ourselves properly so people know the real United - it's a fantastic family club and a fantastic caring club."

Yes, the Ferguson family have done well at United, but does that make us a family club?
