FERGIE NOT LOOKING TO SIGN A CENTRE HALF

…So take it with a pinch of salt

Despite finishing Boxing Day with only two fit defenders,
one of whom is facing an eight-month ban, Fergie doesn’t
feel that we need to strengthen that area of the team. That
said, the Evening News were still reporting that Beckham was
staying at Old Trafford long after everyone else saw the
truth so don’t take these quotes as read:

"I'm not thinking about a defender. One reason is because
Wes Brown is coming back, but I also think we are well
covered there. Hopefully Wes will be fine but we have John
O'Shea, and there is also Gary Neville and Roy Keane who can
play there.

"We don't want any injuries and that's for sure, and a lot
depends on what happens to Rio and his appeal because that
plays a part too, but I am not looking to bring a centre-
half in.”

Sir Alex did admit that we are looking for a striker but
would not give any clues as to who we may sign:

"The striker is a different matter. We are looking for
someone who has not played in Europe, which narrows the
field down a bit. There has been a lot of speculation. It's
not as easy as everyone thinks but we are looking. We just
have to persevere along the lines that maybe we will be able
to get somebody in, and that is all I am saying."
