The PFA have made noises about having nets installed after there have been a few incidents lately of things being thrown onto the pitch aimed at players.
Rio Ferdinand was a victim of this mindless activity when he caught a coin with his head after it had been thrown by a City fans who couldn't take defeat on the chin.
But Fergie feels like the move to get netting installed would be a step too far.
He told the Press Association: “I know you see netting behind the goal in some grounds.
“(Borussia) Dortmund have that and there have been a couple of occasions where it’s happened.
“It happened at Chelsea and then here (at City) but it’s not a consistent thing. Stewarding is a better policy I think.”
