"The Bolton result was a massive lift for us. I spoke to Big
Sam after the game. They did fantastically well and he said
`we've done our job, it's up to you now'. It's now a
question of winning our games. That's exactly the way I'm
looking at it. We're not going to rest. You don't get rest
in this game. To win championships, you need the resilience
to go the whole way to the line."
Looking at the game itself Fergie hailed Ruud’s 40th goal of
the season:
"Ruud has been incredible this season. It's a fantastic
total, really amazing. My players were marvellous. They
showed great determination and our concentration was
terrific. I don't know about 40 goals, Ruud could have had
45, but Kasey Keller was magnificent. We kept our nerve and
you need to do that at this time of year.
"But he's scored the important one as we were hanging on a
little bit and Spurs were having a real go at us. That
killed the game and I could relax for at least three
minutes. Paul Scholes was marvellous. Is there anyone better
at ghosting into the penalty box and getting these kind of
chances?"
"When we missed those chances, you wonder what kind of day
it could be. But we finally got it and then made sure we
didn't do anything silly. I said at half-time that
perseverance is necessary. You could sense the determination
and that they weren't going to lose. We just had to put it
away. You always worry after a European game as it
emotionally drains your players but it helped us slightly to
have a Sunday kick-off.
"It is in our hands now. We have two games to go. It doesn't
sound a lot but sitting on the bench, 180 minutes is a long
time. We must focus on Charlton now, this is going to be a
difficult week because we have some injuries and the
international matches to contend with. Ruud has an
international for Holland on Wednesday. It's hard for him at
the moment. The programme is crazy but there is nothing we
can do about it."
"It is a matter of us winning all our games. That is exactly
how we are looking at it. We will not be relaxing. You don't
get any rests in this league and we need to keep going to
the line - the whole way."
