Evra has been chasing the FA Cup to complete his own personal collection of English trophies; the FA Cup is the only one that has eluded him so far.
And it did seem that United had a good chance of reaching the semi final to play neighbours Man City at Wembley when they took a commanding lead at Old Trafford in the first meeting between United and Chelsea.
But Chelsea pulled the game back from the death that day and then completed the job against United courtesy of a wonder strike by Demba Ba early in the second half at Stamford Bridge.
So the wait goes on for the Frenchman, he told the club's official website: "It's a massive disappointment for us.
"We didn't expect to lose and we really wanted to win the double. A lot of players, including myself, haven't won the FA Cup and it was an important trophy for us."
