The Grauniad reports:
‘Joe Royle was awarded more than £422,000 in damages yesterday when he won a compensation claim against his former club Manchester City, who may appeal. Royle sued when he received only a fraction of the pay-off he expected after being sacked in May 2001.
‘Royle led City to two promotions before they were relegated from the Premiership - he launched the case after claiming he received only £150,000.
‘The judgment is contrary to the firm advice we have received from our QC and legal support team," a City statement read. "It has produced an unfair result whereby Mr Royle has received extra reward for failure. We are advised there are grounds for an appeal and we will be considering our position."’
