Ryan Giggs has revealed how he and his Wales team-mates used to hurl torrents of abuse at John Toshack - before he took over as boss.

“When we got back into the dressing- room after a game, the telly was on and there he would be, slaughtering us.

“Emotions were high. The adrenaline was still running and it didn't sit too well. We called him every name under the sun, hurling abuse at the TV.

“There were some reservations when he took over because he had been pretty critical of a lot of the players, myself included.

“He always seemed to be having a go, especially at me, for the number of times I didn't play, or the way I played.

“Having made me captain, John does discuss most things with me. He seems to have a lot of confidence in me and believes that if I lead by example I can lift the other players.”
