Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino has admitted he is targeting a move for out-of-contract Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani this summer.
I Granata, who are captained by Franck Ribery, miraculously secured Serie A survival after a seven-game unbeaten run down the final stretch of the 2021/22 season saw them climb out of the relegation and beat the drop by one point.
After such a fairytale end to the campaign, Iervolino is setting his sights high heading into the summer transfer window, revealing to Corriere his desire to bring Cavani back to Italy following his previous stint at neighbouring Napoli.
"I'd love to sign Edinson Cavani as free agent. Cavani would be an incredible gift for the city, as Salernitana are staying in Serie A," he said.
Man Utd have opted not to extend Cavani's contract and he will be available for Salernitana to sign on a free transfer.

This week they discuss whether Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich, Manchester United's pursuit of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, Newcastle's plans for Moussa Diaby and Sven Botman & Jorginho's future at Chelsea.
The Uruguayan joined the Red Devils in October 2020 and became an instant fan favourite, scoring 17 goals in all competitions in his debut season in England.
United then triggered an extension clause in his contract, but his second and final campaign at Old Trafford wasn't as successful with a measly two goals to his name.
