"He gets a lot of pressure on him. We played a match at Reading last weekend and as soon as he got the ball there was a swarm around him, four or five players round him at one time,"
"You think well it's hard for a young lad to take, but he learns, he learns quickly.
"The season will slow down and he will get a bit more time later on in the season and come into his own. He's a marvellous player."
Sir Bobby also thinks it's normal for Rooney to lose his temper every now and again.
"As to the youngster's temperament, which has been severely tested already in his fledgling career, Charlton admits it is only natural to react sometimes.
"I think I would have lost my temper just like he does," he added.
"When you go to the media, and the attention that you have to give them and then because of the media attention, the build up and expectation of teams coming to play against you and someone like Wayne Rooney, it's not surprising that he gets himself into trouble now and again."
