Ronny Johnsen has confirmed that he has quit Old Trafford and headed back to his homeland after rejecting a new one-year contract.
Ferguson announced at the weekend that Johnsen was leaving the club, news that surprised the Old Trafford faithful.
Explaining his decision to quit, speaking from his home in Norway, Johnsen said: "Because of the injuries I have had, Sir Alex Ferguson felt that he was only able to offer me another year.
"I was looking for a minimum of two years, so we shook hands and said goodbye on very good terms.
"It seems strange to leave Old Trafford after so many years. It had become my home."
The bin-dippers down the round at Anfield were today linked with a surprise move for Johnsen.
Refusing to comment directly about that link, Johnsen just added: "I am confident that I can stay fit and I am looking forward to the challenge of playing for a new club. I have offers on the table and will consider them over the next few weeks."
