Cristiano Ronaldo is set to receive a bonus of £850,000 after scoring a hat-trick in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Norwich in the Premier League on Saturday.
Ronaldo's treble gave United's pursuit of a top-four finish a boost, with rivals Tottenham and Arsenal both losing on Saturday to blow the race wide open.
According to The Sun, Ronaldo's hat-trick ensured a bonus-related clause in his contract was triggered after reaching the 21-goal mark for the season. The 37-year-old's contract is said to include a £750,000 bonus for reaching 20 goals plus a further £100,000 for his hat-trick.
The Portugal icon will also now receive £100,000 for each further goal he scores in the remainder of this season and will earn around £2.75m in total payments if he manages to reach 30 goals this term.
The Red Devils will pay their top scorer £1m at the end of the season. Ronaldo is 12 goals ahead of Bruno Fernandes as United's top scorer this campaign.
Despite the criticism aimed at him for his lack of application when tracking back, there is no doubt that Ronaldo has been key for United this season as seen by the 21 goals he has scored in all competitions so far.
The win against Norwich saw United move up to fifth place in the league table with 54 points from 32 games, three behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. Ralf Rangnick's side now have two important away fixtures against Liverpool and Arsenal to bolster their Champions League qualification hopes.
