Cristiano Ronaldo limped off the pitch at the end of Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park with two visible bloody wounds on his left leg.
Ronaldo led the line for a hapless United side that were outfought by the Toffees – in the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s case, quite literally as he was left with nothing to show for his battle scars.
United dominated the ball but managed only four shots on target in 95 minutes. Ronaldo himself couldn’t get any change out of Everton centre-backs Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey.
Since the game finished, an image of Ronaldo removing his shin pad and gesturing at the gruesome wounds on his lower leg, have been widely shared online.

The only thing keeping United in seventh place in the Premier League table this weekend was Wolves’ defeat to Newcastle on Friday night. Had Bruno Lage’s team won, they would have leapfrogged the struggling Red Devils and stayed there.
Even though Saturday’s result was only the third time Rangnick has suffered defeat in a Premier League fixture, United have won only one of their last five games in the league – and just three of their last nine. Since the start of February, they have also been knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough and the Champions League by Atletico Madrid.
