Cristiano Ronaldo 'intends to stay' at Man Utd next season

Cristiano Ronaldo is 'currently intent' on remaining at Manchester United next season regardless of whether the club is playing in the Champions League.

The Portugal international has endured a mixed return to Old Trafford this season, and will end the campaign without a trophy for the first time in 16 years.

But despite Man Utd's struggles, the Telegraph report that Ronaldo is planning to remain with the Red Devils next season even if they are unable to qualify for the Champions League.

United's European Cup hopes for this season were dashed by Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, prevailing 1-0 at Old Trafford to dump Ralf Rangnick's men out at the last 16 stage.

Their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League are also in doubt. United are a point adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal and have played two games more than the Gunners, while top-four rivals Tottenham also retain a game in hand.

Ronaldo's contract runs until the end of the 2022/23 season but there includes an option to extend that by another 12 months, though his future has been the subject of speculation because of United's subpar season.

90min revealed last month that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing the 37-year-old, with the French club preparing for the almost inevitable departure of Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid.

Notably, Ronaldo maintains an excellent relationship with Zinedine Zidane, who is a managerial target for PSG to replace Mauricio Pochettino.
