Cristiano Ronaldo has issued an apology for taking a fan's phone and smashing it in frustration following Manchester United's 1-0 loss at Everton on Saturday.
The Red Devils were deserved losers at Goodison Park after failing to respond to Anthony Gordon's first-half strike.
Ronaldo played on the periphery up top for United, and let his emotions get the better of him as he walked back to the dressing room at full-time.
Footage has emerged of the Portuguese superstar ambling past Everton's Park End, taking a boy's phone and smashing it on the ground in anger, with United claiming in the hours that followed they were looking into the incident.
Ronaldo has since taken to Instagram to apologise to the person in question, and while it is likely he is a fan of Everton, has been invited to Man Utd's home clash with Norwich by the Red Devils' number seven.
"It's never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing," Ronaldo said.
"Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game.
"I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship."
Saturday's loss means Man Utd remain seventh in the Premier League table and trail fourth-placed Tottenham by six points.
