Clarke worked under the Real boss when he was in charge at Chelsea and he reckons that after his side have just beaten Barcelona twice and done a job on United, he has them in the best form they have been in for a long time and certainly look a good bet for them to be the third team that Mourinho has won the Champions League with.
The former Chelsea boss himself said on Tuesday after the game with the Reds that he would be back in England managing soon.
And Clarke says that he will not be shocked if it is Manchester United who announce him as their next manager.
He told the Mirror: “When you look at his track record and the clubs he has been at, it is one of the clubs he could manage.
“I sent him a little text before the game wishing him good luck. I told him although the world would be watching, I wouldn't be because I was going to watch a Championship game!
“Over the Christmas period, they definitely had a rocky patch where it looked as though things weren't going to go great for Jose.
“But they have turned it around quite well. They have beaten Barcelona twice and now turned over Manchester United.
“I am sure Jose is focused on the fact he is going to try to win the Champions League with a third different team and in a third different country.
“I think that would be his main aim now and he will be completely focused. He is under contract with Real Madrid.
“As and when Real Madrid decide what they are going to do with their coach towards the end of the season, that becomes a different question.”
