CHELTENHAM TO SAY NO TO PROTEST

The Grauniad reports that Cheltenham racecourse have decided not to
allow a designated protest area for United fans at the Gold
Cup next month.

"These are people who are spending a great deal of money to come
and watch horses run," said Edward Gillespie, Cheltenham's
managing director.

"They are very concerned that nothing should be getting in the way
of that activity, and what we're here to do is provide
quality horseracing and look after the interests of the
60,000 people who are coming to watch. If they are worried
that it is going to have a negative impact on the day that
helps us along the path of decision making.

"We need to assess how to react to this," Gillespie said, "and also
to get our minds around how Cheltenham racecourse has got
into some people's heads as being an appropriate place to
express views about what is essentially a private dispute.

"If we're not careful we'll end up with some sort of soapbox area
of the course where we take bookings by the hour."
