From The Mirror:

"First and foremost I am a Manchester United fan and it is always sad when a good player leaves the club.

"David Beckham is a good player and in an ideal world I would have wanted him to stay. But you have to trust the judgment of the manager. This is the biggest and best football club in the world and that is all down to him.

"Sir Matt Busby achieved a lot, but what Sir Alex has done here is phenomenal. From the moment he came here back in 1986, he wanted to be a winner. He wanted to win the League, he wanted the FA Cup and he wanted the European Cup. He's done the lot.

"There have been a lot of changes in the time I have been associated with the club, but life goes on. That is how it has always been at Manchester United.

"We go into the Champions League with a lot of confidence next season - and for the next four or five. They're a good group of lads. They work very hard and always respond to Alex.

"His team selection is amazing. He can put a team out and you wonder what will happen, but it always works.

"That's why I still love it here. I could never have envisaged 50 years ago still being associated with the club, but it's always a good ride with United."
