The Super Soar Away Sun take time out from their pursuit of Wayne Rooney to bring us this:
‘Real Madrid insist they will head off Manchester United’s bid to sign Iker Casillas. Alex Ferguson is understood to be happy to pay Spain’s No 1 shot-stopper £75,000 a week to solve his goalkeeping problems.
‘Casillas, 23, is one of Real’s lowest-paid stars on £30,000 a week and Madrid are stalling on a new contract as he has a season left on his deal. But Real vice-president Emilio Butragueno is confident Casillas, who is having English lessons, will stay. He said: “He is a fundamental player. There is time to sort out his future. That is our intention.”’
