Brighton's Graham Potter considered in Manchester United manager search

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Graham Potter has emerged as the latest managerial candidate being considered by Manchester United's hierarchy, 90min understands.

United parted ways with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, and looked into a deal for Paris Saint-Germain's Mauricio Pochettino, who is a long-term person of interest to the club, to succeed him.

The complicated nature of that move during the season saw them instead go for an interim boss, with Ralf Rangnick brought in by United's football director John Murtough. As it stands, Rangnick is set to step into an advisory role at the end of the season - though the German himself has hinted in the past that he could stay in the dugout longer.

With new chief executive Richard Arnold now in place, United's search for a next permanent manager has intensified once again in the last few weeks.

Rangnick, 90min understands, is not currently seen as one of the leading candidates - with Pochettino and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag still the main topics of conversation. Leicester City's recent struggles have weakened the hand of Brendan Rodgers, who is among other names considered.

Arnold is ready to leave the manager search in the hands of Murtough and his team, but is wanting them to explore the best options.

Sources believe that Murtough, who has and will be using Rangnick's advice during the search, does believe that Pochettino and Ten Hag are amongst the best options. But a name they believe could tick a lot of boxes for them is Brighton chief Potter.

Potter is seen as being one of the best managerial prospects in British football, and Murtough has already done his homework on the Seagulls boss - who joined them in 2019 from Swansea City.

The 46-year-old has been the subject of speculation in the past 12 months, and was strongly linked with the roles at the likes of Newcastle, Tottenham and Everton.

Potter insists he is happy at the AMEX and has ambitions to turn them into a consistent top ten side, but it would remain to be seen if he could shun any advances from United should they materialise.
