* 1973 FA Cup hero Ian Porterfield has died of cancer. He was a hero to Reds in seventies after scoring the Sunderland goal that consigned Leeds to their usual position of bridesmaids around that time.
* The Guardian:
Luis Aragonés's [Spain manager] infamous description of Thierry Henry as a "black shit" was revisited yesterday when he made another disparaging reference to the former Arsenal striker during a training session with the Spanish national team.
Having seen the Spain coach produce a neat piece of skill while messing around on the training pitch, Valencia's Joaquín remarked how Aragonés was just like Henry. Aragonés responded: "Que coño Henry! Que coño Henry!" But while coño literally translates as a very rude term for the female genitals it is nowhere near as strong in Spanish as its English counterpart. The meaning of "Que coño Henry" is closer to "Henry - who the hell is Henry?!"
* Charles Sale in the Daily Mail:
London police have made their most dramatic move yet in football's war against corruption with the arrest of a 28-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud on Monday.
And the strong speculation was that the suspect taken into custody by the City of London Police, before being bailed until October, was a well-known Premier League star.
The City of London unit would only confirm the arrest, bail provision and age of the man being questioned, adding that it related to their ongoing investigation into football corruption, which started separately from Lord Stevens 'bung' inquiry.
The age of the man arrested matches the age of the star whom police sources were linking with the swoop.
This follows raids by the same London police unit on three football clubs — Newcastle, Portsmouth and Rangers — in July and the arrest of a 61-year-old Manchester man in May.
