"I think with Edwin and the back four we now have, I have got the best defensive unit since 1994.
"It is all there in terms of pace, strength and experience.
"Edwin has had a great steadying influence on the team. He has tremendous confidence, assurance and experience behind him.
"There is no doubt his signing is going to improve our chances of winning things.
"At his age, this move is going to prove a great challenge for him. He said he would never turn down Manchester United because he wants to win.
"At Fulham he did not have that chance but now he is back in the big-time again."
Silvestre adds more:
"We are happy with the way we have started. It's important that we haven't lost because that sets the standard for the whole season. We knew we needed to be, if not at our best, close to 100% for the first few games. Within four or five matches of the season, we can be at full fitness and playing our best football.
"It's been good to have Edwin here. He has a lot of experience at the top level and I think he will improve our performances defensively this season. It's important to have a goalkeeper who is always talking to you and directing you, even more so at United. At this club you need a goalkeeper who is constantly aware because you're not involved in the game all the time.
"We have to hear him and know that he is going to give us the right advice. He's a proven goalkeeper at the very highest level. He's played at Ajax and Juventus and he is a European Cup winner, so he has the experience we need."
