George Best remained in intensive care last night after doctors decided he was too ill to be moved to a general ward.
Soccer legend Best, 59, who is improving, has also admitted to doctors that he has been boozing in the past few weeks.
But his kidney infection has been caused not by alcohol but by the drugs he takes so his body doesn't reject his new liver.
Prof Roger Williams said yesterday: "He is a lot better than he was. He is fully conscious. His infection is under control."
Other reports have it:
Reds legend George Best is "out of immediate danger" and could be moved from intensive care in the next 24 hours, according to his doctor.
Prof Williams said: "He is not as fit as he was six months ago and he is going to need a good spell of recovery to get back to where he was.
"He has had a bit to eat today, which is the first time.
"All in all he is better than yesterday and yesterday was better than the day before.
"We hope to get him back to the (general) ward tomorrow, which would be good because the ICU is not a nice place for any patient."
