SAF in The Sunday Pink."
"I see so much of Eric's style of play in Scholsey's game and am sure he will be able to slot into that role in the future," he said."
So has that time now come for Scholes to be the new Cantona?
"Yes, that's right and I think he can do that," "I think he is mentally strong about it now," Sir Alex said. "I don't think he had quite adjusted to it last season.
"He maybe felt I was pushing him out of the midfield because I had brought in Juan Sebastian Veron but, having lost Teddy Sheringham, I was looking for someone who could play that role.
"I thought Scholsey would be ideal, and this season Carlos (Queiroz) started off the training by playing him as a striker all the time.
"I think Paul realised then that that is where he gets his best chances of scoring goals. There is nobody at our club gets more chances than him, even van Nistelrooy.
"He gets more shots at goal than any other player in the Manchester United team so I have put him in a position where he will get more chances."
"I explained the situation to Carlos and he said he would work on him as a striker rather than contemplating him as a midfield player," Sir Alex said.
"Looking back a year I thought he would be the ideal player for that position because he has the brain, quick feet, is brave and good in the air. He has got a lot.
"He is sharp off the mark and while he doesn't have the blinding pace of an Andy Cole or someone like that, he is as quick as Cantona and quicker than Teddy Sheringham.
"When Teddy was here what did he do ? He was economic in the way he did things and his positioning was great.
"He always took up good positions and that was using his intelligence and experience and Scholes can do exactly that."
