Bayer Leverkusen react to Man Utd interest in Jeremie Frimpong

Bayer Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes has admitted he is not shocked to see right-back Jeremie Frimpong linked with Manchester United.

90min understands United are ready to part ways with Aaron Wan-Bissaka in January but would like to replace him with further competition for Diogo Dalot, with Frimpong one of many names on their shortlist.

Also under consideration are Inter's Denzel Dumfries, Celtic's Josip Juranovic and Lyon's Malo Gusto, among others.

Asked specifically about United's interest in Frimpong, Rolfes insisted he was not concerned about losing the 22-year-old former Manchester City youngster.

“We are very relaxed with Jeremie. It would be fatal if he didn’t draw attention to himself from big clubs with these performances,” Rolfes told Sky Germany.

“He is very conspicuous with his way of playing and is an enormously important player for us. I told him that he will still get his playing time with his quality within the tournament.

“He can decide a game with a single action because he’s incredibly quick and good at dribbling. We’ll be happy when he’s back [after the World Cup] with us. Jeremie has a long-term contract at Leverkusen, so we’re very relaxed.”

Under contract until 2025, Frimpong has enjoyed an excellent season with Leverkusen, chipping in with five goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances and attracting interest from a number of clubs from across Europe.
