Babel posted a Photoshopped picture of referee Howard Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt following his side's 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
The whole of the Liverpool team and management staff were not happy with Webb’s decisions to award United a penalty early in the game, then to send of captain Steve Gerard for a lunge on Michael Carrick in the 31st minute.
Babel wrote: "And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head)."
Later he added: "My apology if they take my posted pic seriously. This is just an emotional reaction after losing an important game.
"Sorry Howard Webb."
