The Austrian FA have denied meeting with Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick for talks over their vacant managerial position.
Rangnick is currently in interim charge of first-team matters at Old Trafford but is moving into an advisory role at the end of the season.
Earlier this week, reports in Austria had suggested the former Schalke coach was a target for Austria, who parted company with Franco Foda following their World Cup qualification play-off exit at the hands of Wales last month.
It was said the federation's sporting director Peter Schottel had flown out to Manchester on Monday to sound out Rangnick for the move, but this has since been denied.
"Clarification: There was no meeting between OFB sports director Peter Schottel and Ralf Rangnick, coach of Manchester United," a statement from Austria read.
The nature of Rangnick's role beyond the end of this season will depend on who is appointed as the next permanent manager.
Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are the two candidates in the running for the position. Whoever gets the role will need to oversee a significant overhaul of the squad, something Rangnick alluded to in a recent interview.
United currently sit seventh in the Premier League, behind West Ham in sixth on goal difference only and with a game in hand.
