ARSENAL DENY TAKEOVER RUMOURS
Despite their denials, the Guardian reports:
Arsenal are considering a mooted takeover by a consortium possibly featuring a Russian billionaire, according to a report last night.
Exploratory talks have apparently been held in recent weeks with a group that may involve Oleg Deripaska, worth £4.8bn and said to be Russia's sixth richest man with huge stakes in aluminium, through his Basic Element company, and major interests in electricity and sugar. He is believed to have shown interest in the Gunners in the past.
It is understood that the north London club's price tag of £350m has deterred previous interested parties - one made moves this summer - and may be putting off current suitors.
Arsenal's board is believed to be divided about any takeover. Nevertheless speculation is likely to surround the club's future, just as it does West Ham United.
