Angel Gomes 'Wanted Deadline Day Move' Away From Manchester United

Angel Gomes wanted a January deadline day move away from Manchester United to another Premier League side.

The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, with the Red Devils said to be willing to offer a new £30,000-a-week deal to secure his services beyond the current campaign.

While manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has championed youth during his time Old Trafford, with youngsters like Scott McTominay, Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood given more prominent first team roles, Gomes has been used more sparingly.

This season he has made three starts in the Europa League, appeared twice as a substitute in the Premier League as well as making one Carabao Cup appearance.

Manchester Evening News now claims Gomes' entourage looked to secure a loan move on Friday, though were evidently unsuccessful.

Gomes was involved in United's Under-23 squad on deadline day, with their game against Norwich finishing just two hours before 11PM, giving the England Under-20 international little chance of completing a move.

It's been reported that United had no intention of letting Gomes leave on loan at any stage throughout January - with MEN's report stating 'United were never going to sanction a loan move when he is out of contract at the end of the season- so the late charge from the teenager's camp comes across as a fruitless endeavour.

Solskjaer is said to have told Gomes there will be a route into the first team squad in the future, though that has not been forthcoming, judging by his minimal involvement so far this season.

Some of Europe's top team are thought to be keen on signing Gomes, with Chelsea and Leicester among the sides previously linked with a move.
