AND THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW WHAT B*LL*CKS IT IS
As Chelsea beat United to Robben’s signature the M.E.N. play the plc’s PR agent implying blame should not be on the OT suits but on Chelsea’s Peter Kenyon for the f*ck up.
However the Telegraph reports that the farce is due to Fergie’s dispute with Coolmore:
The scrutiny of Manchester United's transfer dealings by major shareholder John Magnier would appear to have ended their hopes of signing Dutch winger Arjen Robben. It emerged yesterday that United had retracted an informal offer made by their former chief executive, Peter Kenyon.
Before his defection to Chelsea in September, Kenyon was involved in secret negotiations for Robben on United's behalf and is understood to have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven president Harry van Raay to pay around £10 million.
However, when Kenyon's successor, David Gill, went back to PSV in January his offer was £5 million. When a final bid of £8 million was rejected, Kenyon moved in on Chelsea's behalf and signed Robben in a pre-contract deal this week.
Yesterday, PSV announced that they had sold Robben to Chelsea for £12 million, and that he would move in the summer.
Although United paid £12.8 million for striker Louis Saha in January they have clearly had to reassess any deals that may have been agreed in principle, and in doing so have allowed their former chief executive to steal away a player rated highly by Sir Alex Ferguson.
