Keane in the United mag on his disciplinary record:

"There have been bookings, sendings-off, not to mention the fines which are a killer. That's not to say it won't happen again. Eventually all these things come together and you think 'What's the point?'

"I was really frustrated with the referee at Chelsea (where United conceded a penalty). Okay I argued my case but compare the way I went about it to the penalty against Middlesbrough a few years ago.

"Then I went chasing after the referee. I was a bit crazy. Hopefully I have more control now.''

"I definitely see myself as a manager eventually. It is getting much stricter and there are lots of qualifications.

"I will need a Uefa B and A licence and the new pro managers' licence before I can even think about getting a job.

"It is important to have these things in place when you retire. The big mistake many players make is they retire at 35 without their coaching badges.

"It takes two or three years and your face falls out of the picture.

"With the right qualifications I can go for a job straight away if I want to. I would like to think further down the line I could be a good manager."

Craig Brown on making Darren Fletcher captain of Scotland following Barry Ferguson’s injury:

"I think he [Fletcher] is an outstanding prospect. I think from all I hear about him he is undoubtedly captaincy material but he is very young to be considered as an international captain.''

Quinton Fortune on ‘Boro:

“Keano was saying when he came in that it was the type of result that wins championships, a great result.

“The gaffer was saying that Chelsea and Arsenal both went to Middlesbrough and got a result, so it was very important for us to do the same.

“We can't complain, being top. And now we have got ourselves into that position we just have to carry on. If anyone wants to give it to me I will take it, because I don't have too many shots with my right foot - I am just grateful it went in.

“We were happy with the result. We started well but then began to make a few errors - I gave a few crazy passes myself. Middlesbrough are very difficult to play against. They keep it tight at the back. But having said that we made a few good chances, although only one went in.

“We kept it very tight at the back, they put a lot of crosses in, and we did well. There were some other players we could pick out who maybe should have been sent off. But we are not going to worry about that. It was harsh on Fletch.”

Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz is dreaming of a Champions League final with United:

"The worst opponents would have been Juventus or Manchester United. That would have been worse than Bayern.

"It would be a beautiful dream, fantastic to have Real Madrid and Manchester in the final. I want this final.''

From TeamTalk:

Doug Ellis has insisted revenge will be a major driving force for Aston Villa when they meet Manchester United in Sunday's FA Cup tie.

"We would love to reward that support with success on the pitch. The backing is invaluable both in terms of providing vital revenue and, even more important, getting behind the team.

"Despite some disappointing results over the past year, the fans have remained steadfast with support which is really appreciated.

"Let's hope we can overcome Manchester United and embark on a run which takes us all the way to The Millennium Stadium in May.

"No-one needs reminding what happened when United came to Villa Park at the same stage two years ago. The memory of losing after holding a two-goal lead still leaves a bitter taste.

"Although we are under no illusions it will be any easier this time, the fans can be rest assured our players will be intent on revenge.”
