ALL IN THE PLAN

Hansen in The Daily Telegraph:

‘Roy Keane got the positive reaction he was looking for from his Manchester United colleagues yesterday but whether his desire to find a short-term fix proves beneficial to the club in the long term remains to be seen.

I don't think anybody who has played the game would say that what he has said about his team-mates will be good for United in the long term. But those he criticised have come out and proved a point against Chelsea and you've got to give them credit for that.

It looked like Alan Smith, Darren Fletcher and everybody else Keane criticised were fighting for their lives so from that point of view the reaction was good.

But anybody who has been involved in a team sport will tell you that if somebody who is part of the team has a go at his colleagues, it can be very difficult for that person to come back in to the dressing room.

Five years ago when Keane was at his very peak, the undisputed best player in the country, it would have been bad enough but he would probably have got away with it.

He could have gone back in the team knowing that he was the best player on the pitch every week and nobody could say anything. But if you suddenly don't hit that level of performance, then you are there to be shot at.’
