"We are seeing the evolution of the squad. We've got a great compliment in the team now we have players in each category of varying age, varying experience and we are bringing that through," he said.
"That was part of the transition we went though last summer when David Beckham and Juan Sebastian Veron left.
"We have brought the average wage and the average age down and we are very comfortable with the composition in each category of the squad at the moment."

Before that Louis Saha was over £12m and while Liam Miller is on a free, those are significant investments in the world of football at the moment.
